6 Portrait Artist to Know and Remember

1. Alyssa Monks- Alyssa Monks is a portrait artist from who currently resides and works in Booklyn, NY. She often time take photographs of people and then transfers them onto canvas into exquisite paintings. She mentions on her website that she strives to capture the vulnerability of people and the moment that they're in, which is the main reason why I love her work. Her paintings show the intimacy of the subject(s) which draws you in.

2. Albert Durer- Albert Durer was a famous painter and printmaker during the Renaissance. He worked with engraving on wood and water colors but is most known for his famous self portraits of him self. He was widely known for thinking very highly of his work and himself, but he had a reason to because his work impecable. The detail he shows and the brush stokes he uses are beautifully done.

3. Ben Sasso- Ben Sasso is a portrait photographer out of L.A. He is also an educator and does all sorts of teachings and writings for workshops all over the country to teach fellow photographers. What I love most about his portraits is the lighting and how he captures the subjects expressions and it's not so posed; it just looks very natural.

4. Steve McCurry- Steve McCurry is a photographer and photojournalist who is most famously known for his portrait the "Afghan Girl" which appeared in national geographic. I love how in the majority of his portraits you are drawn to the eyes of the subject. The eyes are my favorite part of a person and can tell so much about someone and a photograph.

5. Mario Masitti- Mario Massitti is another photographer and educator from California that takes portraits from High School seniors to celebrities. He teachers classes on how to get the perfect lighting and how to "pose" without posing.

6. Michaelangelo- Michaelangelo has always been one of favorite artist. He is known for his paintings, sculptures, and architecture during the High Renaissance and is most well known for his work on the Sistine Chapel, the Last Judgement, and was the architect for the St. Peters Basilica. His works have multiple portraits of him self and other artist and philosophers within them and can even be quite humorous if you know the background behind them.
